Bonz Instructions

VERY IMPORTANT!

Cook Bros. Racing cranks use JIS standard taper bottom brackets. Using other than JIS standard bottom brackets will damage your cranks and void the warranty.

Spindle Length: 115mm to 120mm depending upon dynamics of the frame design, crank arm symmetry, & desired chain-line. Bottom brackets with side to side adjustment is highly recommended.

Bottom brackets we recommend: Phil Wood (JIS-standard).

Mounting the Bonz Crankset on the Bottom Bracket Spindle

Clean the bottom bracket spindle with rubbing alcohol and make sure there are no sharp edges. Smear a very thin coat of Antiseize on the flats of the spindle. Mount the arms on the spindle and tighten to 25 ft./lbs.  Ride for a few miles and re-tighten to 30 ft./lbs.  Do not over tighten!  Check periodically to ensure the spindle bolts are tight.  Failure to follow these specifications may result in damage to the crankset and will void the warranty.

Removal of Bonz crank arms from spindle

It is extremely important that you use a high quality crank puller (we recommend Campagnolo) and that you make certain mounting bolt are removed, before CAREFULLY threading the puller into the crank. Make sure that the puller is completely seated into the crank then gradually tightening the puller until the crank breaks loose of the spindle. Retract the puller bolt before removing the puller from the crank.

Mounting the the sprocket onto the right arm

Make sure that the splines on both the sprocket and crank arm are clean & dry. Smear a thin coat of Antiseize on one of the splines then mate them by squeezing them together between your hands. Lightly coat the threads of the crank with Antiseize and CAREFULLY thread on the locknut. The nut can be tightened with a standard 36mm headset wrench ( though we recommend a Park HW-2 ). Tighten the locknut to 20 ft./lbs. and go ride. Occasional checking of locknut tightness is recommended.
